Skeleton Tree (Fallingfeather's Egg) « Thread Started on Nov 10, 2007, 9:40pm »
In the barren emptiness of grassland that made up a large part of Okaan, there were few buildings, only the scattered handful of tiny, rustic villages that were spotted across the surface of the plains. There were even fewer trees. So it was a strange sight to see the huge, barren figure of a tree towering up from the level ground, sending stark white fingers up across the sky. The tree had long since been striped of all bark, and the bare wood was sun-bleached, and dry, but durable. The wind blew along its surface, the grains of sand carried miles from the desert sculpting and carving it into swirls. What made the tree even stranger was the object wedged between two of its branches. Like a many-faceted rock, polished to a gleam, it looked heavy, and its silver-teal surface contrasted against the pale branches. It was of course, an egg, but it was a strange kind, one that no chicken could hope to lay. Groaning and singing in the wind, the tree seemed to lament the ill fate that hung about the world, and a soft, ringing tone, like a tuning fork, emanated softly from the egg.

Fallingfeather walked up to the egg. "Hello there." She cooed and stroked it lightly. She fluttered up onto the branches to get a better look at it. The felt its surface. It was warm and slightly bumpy and the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. She tried to pick it up, out of the branches, but it slipped in her hands and went right back in. "Okay, you want to stay there? Thats fine with me."

"So sad it is here!" The egg said quietly, mimicking the voice of a small child, a little girl. "They are killed here." Gruff and demanding, the voice of some officer of the law, the egg copied it's voice. Then finally, as if suddenly realizing Fallingfeather was there, in a rather cheery and pleasant voice of a young man it spoke, "Hello! This is a hanging tree. Not a very pleasant place, but the breeze is nice. Thankfully, they don't use it much. What brings you here?"
